What AI search optimization actually means
When someone asks an AI assistant to recommend a bookkeeper in Surrey or explain how a strata repair works, the answer is often built from web pages the system can reach and understand. If your site buries answers in vague copy, blocks the relevant crawlers, or lists different details from your Business Profile, you are easy to leave out. In plain words, AI search optimization is the work of making your business a clear, consistent and quotable source.
We build on solid SEO rather than replacing it. Key pages are reworked so each question gets a direct answer near the top, FAQ and structured data are added, your name, address, services and descriptions are aligned across the web, and robots.txt is reviewed so search crawlers can reach you. Then we track AI referrals in GA4. Nobody controls what an AI system says, so we promise effort and transparency, not placements. It suits firms whose customers research carefully before they call.
What you get
- AI visibility audit We test a set of real customer questions in AI Overviews, ChatGPT and Perplexity, and record where you appear and who appears instead.
- Answer-first content Key pages restructured so questions become headings and the first sentence underneath answers them plainly.
- FAQ and structured data Organization, LocalBusiness, Service and FAQPage schema that matches what visitors see on the page.
- Entity consistency One version of your name, address, phone, services and description on your site, Google, Bing Places, Apple Business Connect and key directories.
- Crawler access choices robots.txt reviewed so OAI-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and Bingbot can reach public pages, with training bots such as GPTBot allowed or blocked as you decide.
- Citations and mentions Listings, association profiles and local coverage that give AI systems independent sources confirming who you are.
- AI referral tracking A GA4 channel group for visits from chatgpt.com, perplexity.ai, Gemini and Copilot, so AI traffic is visible on its own.
- Plain-language findings A short report on what changed, what AI tools now say about you, and what we suggest next.

Common questions
Is AI search optimization different from SEO?
It overlaps heavily. Google says AI Overviews follow the same fundamentals as regular search, with no special markup required. The extra work is about clarity and consistency: direct answers, matching details across the web, crawler settings for non-Google assistants, and tracking AI referrals separately. Think of it as SEO with a sharper focus on being quotable.
Can you get my business recommended by ChatGPT?
We cannot promise it, and no one honestly can. AI answers change with the wording of a question, the user’s location and history, and frequent model updates. What we can do is remove the reasons you are being left out and make your business easy to verify, then track whether mentions and referrals improve over time.
Should I block AI bots in robots.txt?
It depends on what you want. Blocking search crawlers such as OAI-SearchBot or PerplexityBot can keep you out of those answers entirely, while training crawlers like GPTBot are a separate choice. Blocking Google-Extended limits use of your content for Gemini but does not remove you from AI Overviews, which rely on regular Googlebot. We explain the trade-offs and set it up your way.
How can I tell if AI search work is paying off?
Three ways. GA4 shows referral visits from AI tools such as chatgpt.com and perplexity.ai, grouped into their own channel. Search Console currently counts AI Overview clicks inside normal web results, so we watch those trends too. And we re-run a fixed set of customer questions every month to see whether your business is mentioned.
Does FAQ schema still matter if Google rarely shows FAQ snippets?
Google limited FAQ rich results in 2023 to a small group of authoritative government and health sites, so most businesses will not see expandable questions in results. The markup can still help machines read your answers accurately, and the visible questions and answers on the page remain useful to people and AI tools alike.
